Snohomish River - plein air, acrylic 9 x 14 on canvas

We have finally gotten a taste of summer the last couple of days here in western Washington. I was able to get outside to paint yesterday with a new friend. It was lovely and perfect. The sky was overcast, but nice and warm. This was such a lovely area to paint. I could hear lots of bird conversations and the buzzing sounds of insects. We planted ourselves right on the wobbly dock at the boat ramp. Luckily, there wasn't too much activity since it was a weekday. But we did get a few fun wakes and held on dearly to our easels. I am falling in love with painting outdoors. It is freeing and all my senses are awakened to the beauty around me.

Keep breathing Tina...

Between my daughter's end of year school activities and dance recitals, I am squeezing in my time to get my ducks in order for submitting work to four shows this summer! Today and Monday I submit work to my first juried shows and I am preparing work for two other local shows for July and August. I'm excited and nerve racked at the same time. Here is some of my latest work I'm doing in preparation. Thank goodness I have a supportive and sweet hubby to deal with me!

Plein-air piece I had a short time in the field to work on (had to get the girl from school). I brought it home to continue the work. Still more to go. But working outside at this local marsh was so lovely. I am enjoying outdoor painting so much. I love listening to the birds and wind while I'm absorbed I painting.

This is also another work in progress. This cutie kitty is one of our local shop kitties. I couldn't resist doing another cat painting.

This is one of my obstacles I have to face while painting. Her name is Crystal. Yes, you have seen her in some of my work. I have two other obstacles, Mr. Hobbes and Tink. Of course, it is their subtle way of telling me I need to make time for them as well. Plus I'm lucky they model for love and food and not for money! Really, I am a lucky woman.

July show at ARTSplash in Edmonds

I will have some paintings along side other wonderful local artists here in Edmonds. Attached is a poster designed by artist Kathleen A. Johnson. This group showing includes all artists that are part of the Artists Connect group here in Edmonds. This is my first time doing the show and I am new to the group. I am excited to see all the varied work. If any of you just happen to be in the neighborhood during this event, stop by and check it out and say hi!

From Edmonds to Tokyo

I'm sharing two pieces I'm working on. Feedback welcome. One is of one of our local water parks here in Edmonds. Yes, I'm spoiled living in such a beautiful area! I have been experimenting with my new Golden Open acrylics on this piece. Verdict: I love them! I feel this piece needs more interesting contrast and texture. There are parts I'm happy with, but it needs more something. I feel these paints will be perfect for my plein air work.

The next piece is from a photo when I was in Japan. I like the loose painting in this one better. What do you think? I had more fun with this one. I could work more on the water. I'm not sure yet. I used traditional acrylics on this piece.
