Figure Drawing Practice

I am really enjoying my weekly figure drawing sessions with a group of delightful artists. Here are some of the outcomes. Most of the artists are sculptors, so we have 20 minute poses. I'm including a quick painting I did today inspired by one of the drawings. I am happy with my progress, as drawing people is a challenge. Hopefully I will gain the courage to do more with hands, feet and faces at some point.

Respite on the Sound - oil on canvas 40" x 30"

This is the oil painting I've been working on for awhile now.  Cormorants are one of my all time favorite birds here around the Puget Sound. I love seeing them spread their wings to dry them off. It is such a majestic site and one I look forward to soon when we get back to our sailing ways.

A plug for my talented friend who creates artful cakes

My friend, Sue Wilson-Schmitz, just put up a blog today with photos of her amazing cakes. Please stop by and see her incredible work. This picture is a winning cake she made for an edible books contest last year.

Cavy - acrylic on canvas 8" x 8"

This is a commissioned pet portrait I just created for a friend. It's a secret birthday gift for her daughter. This is a first for me with guinea pigs. She is rather cute!

End of a good day - oil on canvas 18"x 24"

Here is one of the paintings I've been struggling with this past week. The image is intense as it is, but I'm trying to find a way to make this not so overwhelming. It is at a better point now, but I definitely will continue to refine this one. I love the evenings when we are anchored out on our sailboat in Puget Sound and sunsets like this are a real gift.
