Vigil & Rose

This is an old piece I did for a fundraising book to help support a local homeless women's day shelter. We did portraits and told the stories of a few of the women there. This painting above is of some of the staff and others who stand in silence in downtown Seattle to pay respect to those homeless who die on the streets. It's a very sobering and sad situation which has only gotten worse these past few years. But in our discussions with the amazing women, we learned that no matter what difficult situations they encountered, they still had hope, a big sense of community and great deal of joy and light within them. I am posting this as I heard this week that one of the special ladies we painted has died this week due to cancer. Her name is Rose and she was special. Here is the painting that artist Connie Nelson did of her in 2006. We will miss you Rose.

Jigsaw - acrylic on canvas

This is an older commissioned painting I did. I tried to capture the energy of this beautiful dog named Jigsaw. I thought I'd post at least a something, as I haven't had a chance to hit the painting (life events happening!) I plan on getting back into it in a week when all simmers down. I have also been busy designing a large stained glass piece that a friend has commissioned me to do for their old Victorian house. Stay tuned and thanks for following...

Ramen - update

I think this is one of the most challenging scenes I've painted. I like the warm feel and as my husband said, he can almost smell the warm ramen soup.

Lopez Island - oil on board 8 x 10

This is one of the scenes from our sailing trips to the San Juan Islands. This is off Spencer spit on Lopez Island.

Ramen Shop - oil on canvas 8 x 10

This is what I'm working on today. People are a challenge for me! Stay tuned on how this one evolves...

Oregon Coast - oil on board 8 x 10

This is a painting I started yesterday from a photo I think I took 3 years ago. I love the coast, especially on stormy moody days.

Anna at Kubota Gardens - oil on board 8 x 10 - update

I've worked a bit more on this, but I'm still not happy with the railing or the right corner of foliage. I'm taking a break from this and am working on a couple of new paintings. Just sharing my slow but forward moving progress.

Foggy morning - oil on board 8 x 10

Woke up a couple of mornings ago to fog. I love this time of year. Our crow friend was also content, so I thought I'd attempt trying to paint the moment.
